Head Coach Dave Krauth
Dave Krauth begins his 21st year as head coach of the Augustana Vikings and remains the winningest coach in school history with an overall record of 397-185.
Krauth is coming off a 20-10 season in 2008-09 and finished fourth in the teams’ first season in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference before making the NCAA Division II Tournament.
Krauth has directed the Vikings to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances. His teams have produced 40 All- Conference players, three league MVP’s, and his teams have led the nation in scoring twice in his tenure.
Krauth was named the North Central Conference Coach of the Year in 1990. He was the South Dakota Sportswriter’s Coach of the Year in 1994 and was the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association Women’s College Coach of the Year in 1989-90, 1990-1991 and in 2004-2005. In 2006, he was named the Russell Athletic/WBCA Division II Region 7 Coach of the Year after leading the Vikings to a 25-7 record, which included a school-record 20-game winning streak.
Teaching and coaching stints at Tri-Valley High School in Colton, South Dakota and Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Iowa preceded Krauth’s tenure at Augustana. His high school coaching record is 347-143, and he guided eight of those teams to state tournaments.
Krauth is a 1974 graduate of Sioux Falls College and received his master’s degree from South Dakota State University in 1983.
Krauth and his wife Sandy have two daughters, Julie (Augustana, ’94) and Katie (Augustana, 2006). Both Julie and Katie were standout players for the Vikings’ women’s basketball and softball teams.
