Assistant Women's Basketball Coach Mark Stavenger


Mark Stavenger is entering his second season as Dave Krauth’s top assistant coach after being elevated to the position in the Spring of 2008 after spending the 2007-08 season as a graduate assistant coach.

In both roles, Stavenger has played a crucial role in scouting, film exchange and individual workouts with the team, as well as orchestrating camps within the Sioux Falls community.

Stavenger played one season of basketball at Augustana. However, he suffered a career-ending shoulder injury at the end of his freshman season.

He graduated from Augustana with bachelor's degrees in exercise science and fitness management in December of 2006.

Stavenger previously coached youth basketball and continues to work and promote numerous basketball camps. He has recently earned his master's degree in teaching from Augustana in the Spring of 2009.



Assistant Women's Basketball Coach Shawn Bergan

Shawn Bergan is in his second season at Augustana after seven seasons as the head coach at Sioux Falls Lincoln. He has just started his 11th year as a Math Teacher at Sioux Falls Lincoln.

He has been involved with coaching basketball for the past 20 years, working with high school boys and girls, as well as men’s and women’s college teams.

Bergan was a part-time assistant for the Augie men's team from 1991-94 and is a 1994 Augustana graduate. Shawn assists in all phases of the Augustana program including assisting in summer camps around the Sioux Falls area.

Bergan has wife Ginger, who is a Physical Educational Teacher in the Sioux Falls School District, a son named Bo who is 5-years-old and a daughter Gracie, who is 2 1/2-years-old.


Graduate Assistant Coach Amy Puthoff

Amy Puthoff is starting her first season as a graduate assistant coach for Augustana after a successful playing career as a guard with the Vikings.

In her senior season, the Hartford, S.D. native became the 24th player in school history to score 1,000 points and ended her career eighth on the all-time scoring list with 1,384 points. In addition, Puthoff is fourth on the all-time career 3-point field goal chart with 207.

She ended her career with 475 rebounds, 176 steals and 208 assists, while averaging 11.2 points and 3.85 rebound per contest over a four her year career.

She averaged 14.5 points and 5.4 rebounds a game in her final season, while leading the team with 56 steals and 72 three-pointers. She was also named to the NSIC All-Conference Second Team.

Puthoff scored a career high 28 points against Bethany Lutheran College in her sophomore season and grabbed a career high 13 rebounds against Southwest Minnesota State in 2009.

Puthoff helped lead Augustana to an 88-26 record in four seasons, while advancing to the NCAA Division II Regional Championship Tournament her freshman, sophomore and senior season.
